Happy Birthday Mom!
I wish I had a better picture but as I was searching through pictures I realized that my mother doesn't sit still long enough to get a picture of her. LOL! Guess that is why she is such a wonderful mom. That is also my sister in the picture with her.

Mother Daughter Time
Kaylyn and I finally had our mother daughter get-away. I would have liked to have done it closer to her 13th birthday but our busy lives didn't allow. I did the same with Anna and plan on doing it with Libby when she turns 13. It is a weekend (or in Kaylyn's case, 2 weekdays) where we work through Passport2Purity.
First we went and seen Monsters vs. Aliens at the IMAX theater. That was a lot of fun. Neither of us had seen an IMAX movie before.
Warning: the entire movie makes a laughing stock out of our government. I find that to be distasteful and disrespectful. Probably not a good message to send our kids that our leaders are a bunch of incompetent misfits. That being said I don't know if younger kids would even get that but it isn't any different than so many of today's sitcoms making dad's look like ignorant beasts who need their wives to keep them in line and tell them how to behave. Hmm I wonder why society is breaking down, look at our "role models". Ok I will get off my soapbox now.
Back to our getaway.
Then after lunch at Panera Bread we went to Fredrick Meijer Gardens to see the butterflies.
Thank goodness Kaylyn knows how to take pictures of herself so well. LOL! Look how well she centered that picture without being able to see the view finder.
Kaylyn thought it would have been funny if the fish ate the butterfly. That made me chuckle. Then here is another funny Kaylyn story. We were looking at the flowers and Kaylyn says out loud, "Something smells weird over here." I turn and she is standing with her back to a man who looked shall we say a little un-kept. So I am now embarrassed trying to quietly explain to Kaylyn that she can't say things like that out loud. As I am I over hear another woman saying, "Wow. That really does stink!" To her friend as she is smelling an odd looking plant....
Turns out God designed the plant in the picture above to smell like dead fish to attract flies. Wasn't the man after all. LOL! It still was a good lesson for my dear daughter to think before she speaks though. Kaylyn and I were both laughing about it.
The Passport2Purity program suggests giving your daughter a special gift at the end of the weekend to remember the time you had together. We decided to let the girls get their ears pierced at the end of the weekend. I tie it in with the lesson they have learned about how once you have lost your innocence you can't loose it again. Once you have pierced your ears for the first time you can't pierce them again for the first time and if you decide you didn't want to pierce them you are still left with a small scar.
Kaylyn was so nervous to get them done that she gave herself an upset stomach. She has been wanting them pierced for forever but the thought of possible pain was about all she could handle. Wow was she relieved after the first ear to find out it didn't even hurt. Then she started talking non-stop. Open the flood gates. LOL!
It was a wonderful time. We both really enjoyed ourselves.

Will it ever end?
Will my son's love of a good 'ol PB&J ever end?
I stumbled across this journal entry while cleaning/purging this morning...
Nov. 18, 1994 "Anna's eating more finger foods now ex:bananas, graham crackers, shredded cheese. She is also really motoring around the furniture. Zachary's favorite food is Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches. It is all he ever wants morning, noon, and night."
How appropriate that this is what I found in my kitchen this morning after the kids had left for school. I think I put PB away at least 3 times a day.
This is why I hate this habit of his...

Oct. 24, 1994 "Helped Audrey take her awnings down then went to Russ' w/ her, Mom, and Dad. While Zack was eating his supper he went to set down a fry and fell off his chair and was sleeping by the time he hit the floor. We were all laughing as he continued to sleep."
I guess when you play hard you also sleep hard. He isn't falling asleep at the dinner table anymore but the PB&J habit is still going in full force.

Fine Arts Night
Libby had a Fine Arts Night at school last night. She had this on her desk to show us...
It really touched my heart. I love reading my kids thoughts.
We also got to watch her class perform a song for us in the Cafeteria. I caught something really funny at the beginning of this video. Watch (the first 15 secs) the little boy in the middle row wearing a black sweatshirt. Make sure that your volume is turned up so you can hear what he says. It just cracked me up! Libby is in the back row wearing the black sweater.
Edited to add: Since people are having a hard time figuring out what David said I will tell you. "The suspense is KILLING ME!" Now just try and not laugh when you see how he expresses it. What a riot!

Soccer
Anna had a soccer tournament Saturday. It was so cold. We watched her first game from the Suburban because Libby had just taken a shower and her head was still wet. The girls played great and took 2nd place.

Wordless Wednesday (Almost) - My Sweet Zachary
A little background on why I am posting these pictures today...
I received this e-mail from my sister earlier this week. She is the mother of the 10mo old that I watch one or two days a week.
"Speaking of forgetting to shut the door, this weekend I was sitting in the living room watching TV & I thought the bathroom door was closed. Emily had been close by, but that mother instinct kicked in as I suddenly realized that I hadn’t heard her for a few minutes. So I got up to see where she was & she’d pulled herself up onto the toilet and had her arm hovering over the toilet & was just getting ready to reach her hand in. I yelled “Emily NO!”. I got her & Leo’s attention. I did wash her hands. Now that I think of it, I probably should have washed her mouth & face just in case she’d decided to give the seat a taste test just like she does with everything else! YUCK!!!!"
So I replied with, "I will have to pull out the picture of Zack for you when I found him standing IN the toilet. I will try to keep a better eye on your child."
And then a little "sister love" back from her, "Hmmmm, so you find your child standing in the toilet, and instead of screaming and thinking that you can't get him out of there fast enough, you stop to go find your camera???"
That one cracked me up so I sent back, "Just a little insight into how my brain works... I dare you to try figure it out. LOL!"
So here you are Julie. I love you and promise to keep on taking pictures of my beautiful niece for you. ~Smiles!

Lisa at Extravagant Grace is starting a group called "5 whatever gal". I love it! It is a commitment to get up while it is still dark to have time alone with God. It doesn't have to be at 5am or at 5:30am just 5 whatever time. I had already committed to myself, this past January, to getting up at 5:45am every morning so that I would be up before the rest of the family. I didn't think I was going to be able to stick to it because I am not a happy morning person. But you know what I found out? I am a much happier morning person when I can wake up WITHOUT family pressuring me to start helping them get ready. LOL! So it has become a double blessing for me. I get a set time with God every day and I am able to get myself moving before the family does it for me. Wink!

I have great kids!
I love it when my kids get inspired to help each other. While I was gone this past weekend my older two girls helped my youngest clean, organize, and re-arrange her bedroom. I couldn't even walk into this bedroom before I left because Libby is known for trying on clothes and leaving them on the floor and bringing up clean clothes and not putting them away. It was a mess and a headache for me every time I seen it. I just haven't had the time or energy to help her tackle it and it had become to overwhelming for her to accomplish it on her own. Sisters to the rescue. Anna and Kaylyn spent much of Saturday helping her sort through things that could be given to Goodwill and things that could be dumped. Bless their hearts. I am REALLY glad they showed me her bedroom and the hallway closet (more of their organizing) before I found the results of the cleaning in the laundry. It was much easier to over look the unsorted clothes all on the floor after seeing how much work they put into the closet and Libby's bedroom.
