Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten about Haiti and the earthquake? I pray that you haven't and that you are continuing to pray for Haiti. Here is a link that Tara Livesay posted today about living through those first few hours after the earthquake. Grab some tissues before clicking on the link. I think you will need them.

Pictures from July 2008

Anna walking through the village with some of the kids.

A sweet young boy who was fascinated with my camera. That is Zack behind him.

A precious little girl waiting for her lunch at a food distribution program.

A beautiful mother who actually wanted her picture taken even though she doesn't appear to. She was all smiles when I showed her the picture after I had taken it. I showed it to the mom and kids in the background also and they were so excited to see themselves in the picture.

There is so much death in Haiti (even before the earthquake) that I often look at these pictures and wonder how the families are doing but even more so since the earthquake.

Let's not forget to keep them in our prayers.

Nate and a team have been trying to get to Haiti and this morning they finally made it. Nate is a member at my church and he lead the team that I went with to Haiti the summer of 2008. We stayed with Troy and his family while we were there. These men move mountains in order to help the Haitians! Please keep them in your prayers.

What lies am I believing?

Seeing and hearing about everything going on in Haiti has really made me do some soul searching. How about you? I agree with the statement "who are we to question God" and that isn't so much what has been on my mind but more so what do I believe about who and what God is. And am I believing lies. How do I explain my God to others?

I think it is making me more aware of how the world would like to force feed us that God is love. Really? Have you read the Bible lately? Specifically the story of Job. I don't find it a coincidence that I am reading through the Bible in a year following a chronological reading plan that had me in the book of Job 2 weeks ago. God allowed Satan to test Job and that included lots of people dying. What? Part of Job's testing brought death to others. That didn't hit home, I mean REALLY hit home, until this past week.

Something else that has me thinking is something that our Youth Pastor shared with us Sunday. He was talking about the fact that Haitians were singing praises to God in the streets AFTER the earthquake. Did you catch that? They were singing praises after they had suffered such an incredible loss. Then he suggested the idea that God would use them to witness to others. Think about that. There are aid volunteers flying in from every corner of the earth. What percentage of them are believers? So could God be bringing the unsaved to Haiti to be witnessed to by the very people they thought they were going to help?

Speaking from my own personal experience I felt God's presence while in Haiti in a very indescribable way. I had a whole higher realization that God could meet my needs and the needs of my children with or without my help.

So do I believe God is love? Absolutely! I know God loves me. Do I believe the world view of love is really what true love is? Absolutely not! Sometimes love hurts.

To God and God alone be the glory!

Please Pray for Haiti

The already impoverished country of Haiti experienced a 7.3 earthquake yesterday. Having been there myself in July of 2008 this is very near and dear to my heart. Please pray for Haiti as they are dealing with huge devastation right now. Here are a couple links to blogs from people in Haiti right now:

Haiti Letter

Today I finally mailed out our letters that Anna wrote for our trip to Haiti this summer. Please pray for a good response to these letters. I know it is God's will and therefore everything will work out but my earthly nature worries about where the money is coming from.

Here is the letter that Anna wrote. I think she did a wonderful job on it.

Hello,

Exciting things are happening here in the Hill household. My mother, my brother, and I are going on a mission trip to Haiti this summer with a group from our church. We will be there for 9 days starting on July 19 and ending July 27.

I had wanted to go so I prayed about it, my mom did too. When we decided to go Zack wanted to go also but at the time the dates were for the first week of August and that would be the week football practice started up. When he figured out he wouldn’t be able to go along he was bummed, but then the dates changed because there were no plane tickets available for the first week of August. That was perfect for Zack to be able to come along with us.

We are going down there to run a VBS, Vacation Bible School, in different cities.

A few years ago our family chose to sponsor a little girl from Barbancourt, Haiti. We found out that we might get to meet her when we go because we will be doing a VBS in that city. It will be very exciting!

Please consider supporting us for our mission trip to Haiti through prayer and financially. We need to raise $3000 by June 1st. We also know what God does when His people pray. We covet your prayers.

One more exciting fact about this trip is my Grandmother, Judy Van Dam, has agreed to go with us to Haiti also.

Sincerely,

Anna Hill

Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”

Donations should be made out to Lighthouse Mission Mobilization with “Hill family-Haiti fund” written on the note line. They can be mailed to our home address or put in our mailbox @ church.

Here we go again!

You guessed it, yet one more snow day for the kiddos in West Michigan. This time it is working in our favor. You see we, Anna and I, had planned on seeing Tori come home from Haiti at the airport at 11:27pm last night (wow that is late). Due to the weather they got stuck over night in Miami so now they will be arriving at 2:00pm this afternoon. This will be much easier on this old mom who likes to get her sleep at night. We can't wait to welcome her home!
Smiles!
