Puritan Reading Challenge

My first day of reading was well blessed this morning. Enjoy a couple of the pearls that I found...

In regards to Christ's Calling...
  • "In this we may see the sweet love of God to us, in that he counts the work of our salvation by Christ his greatest service, and in that he will put his only beloved Son to that service." Oh that I may feel the "sweet love of God"
  • "See here, for our comfort, a sweet agreement of all three persons: the Father gives a commission to Christ, the Spirit furnishes and sanctifies to it, and Christ himself executes the office of a Mediator. Our redemption is founded on the joint agreement of all three persons of the Trinity."
In regard to The Good Effects of Bruising...
  • "Our hearts, like criminals, until they be beaten from all evasions, never cry for the mercy of the judge." Wow! Read that again.
  • "After conversion we need bruising so that reeds no themselves to be reeds, and not oaks. Even reeds need bruising, by reason of the remainder of pride in our nature, and to let us see that we live by mercy" That ugly pride again.
Smiles!

The slope wasn't very big, but it was big for something indoors. I agree that it is very strange, which is why I didn't want to spend my money on it. Shopping was fun though. We have started planning a trip to Granada where the real skiing is. Can't wait.

I love the one about the sweet agreement of all three persons. I'll try remember that quote for our next group!

You found some good thoughts for you first reading.

If you think pride is rearing it's ugly head----just wait until you get to Chpt.2!

It's so much easier to be humble, but dang, it can be hard!

I loved that quote with the illustration of the criminal.

Ok...here's my fav,
"After conversion we need bruising so that reeds no themselves to be reeds, and not oaks. Even reeds need bruising, by reason of the remainder of pride in our nature, and to let us see that we live by mercy" That ugly pride again."

I think after the "bruising" that I have had this past year that I am QUITE certain that I am a reed!!!

Great thoughts...

I haven't been able to do much blog reading lately, so I am catching up with you tonight.

Loved the blanket story...nothing is as special as knowing someone made you a gift with their own time and talents. Your neice will love hers, too.

101, huh? Yep, that's about what I would like to look at. And I usually come pretty close. :)

Congrats on your awards, too.

Have a blessed day and STAY WARM,

Tonja
